Conquer anger!
Ecclesiastes 7:9 “Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools.”
Do you use expletives, bark orders, scream, retort sharply and behave rudely? Do you mock, criticize and yell at cleaners, drivers and helpers? Do you always find fault with the service at the airline or restaurant servers? Do you howl at people who accidentally cut across you while driving?
I am sure many of you would be smacked by the Word of God today! Sometimes people throw around their weight by bawling and screaming. Let me tell you today, this only reveals lack of self-control rather than authority. These days, right from the parliament to the pavement we see the heat fuming. Immaculately dressed ramp walkers, celebrities of the tinsel world are no exceptions, though. Carefully applied make-up melts and reveals the grotesque figures underneath.
Friend, many times we don’t even realize that because of our anger, we not only harm ourselves- hypertension, diabetes and stress- but also severely hurt and damage people around us. Wake up to this message today! The way to conquer anger is to be conscious of it. Unless you are convicted in that area, you can never overcome the habit. Don’t smother the evil habit by saying, “I may yell and scream but I still have a good heart.” But I want to mention what Jesus says here “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.” (Mathew 12:35) Do not cheat yourself but let the Word of God be a measuring rod to analyze your character. Are you easily triggered and you explode like a gun or are you a calm and composed person?
The Apostle Paul says, Ephesians 4:26 says, "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,..” Anger is an emotion, but it is imperative to know how to handle it. We can go berserk or we can calmly confront the issue. Identify what makes you angry or who makes you angry and calmly work out ways to overcome the situation. May be things were not done as per your desire, or your orders were not diligently obeyed or may be you get angry when you are stressed; whatever, we need to cool the tempers off, we’ve got to conquer anger through abiding in His Word and abiding with the vine, Jesus Christ.
The remarkable increase in divorces and broken homes, highlights with pinpoint precision, the free floating sense of fickleness, recklessness and lack of gentleness that pervades relationships today. If it is your ‘swollen pay packet that is causing you to be swollen headed’ then God surely would cut that. Beware! Men and women learn to control your temper today!
Ephesians 4:31,32 ”Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
