Luke chapter 7 was the subject for meditation today, using
Exposition method.
Whenever you read the book of Luke please keep in mind that
it is a Doctor who has authored it.
He annotates little differently and with much clarity than
his fellow Gospel writers, regarding miracles, because of his profession.
For example, when other Gospel narrated that Peter’s
mother-in law was suffering with fever, Luke alone says that she had High
fever.
Luke the companion of Paul has authored both book of Luke
and ACTS addressing one single person named Theophilus(God Lover).
It astonishes us that Luke wrote these two books with such
carefulness just to address one single person.
From which we also learn that when we do this ministry with
love even for one single person, God will bless it and multiply it for many.
Luke 7:36 Pharisees
invited Jesus... He went
- God would never decline an invite.
- Whatever is our past sinful life, if we open our heart and call upon Him, Jesus is there to dine with us.
- Use Dinner as an Evangelism tool to spread the Gospel; Jesus made most use of these opportunities.
- While eating, He preached, taught and healed...
- Your house will become a sanctuary for your friend
Luke 7, Verse 37: so she
came there... with an alabaster jar of perfume
- Woman with sinful life came in with no invitation. If you love Jesus, you don’t need an invitation... to go near him.
- Start doing something for Jesus right away...
- When is the Last time you loved Jesus extravagantly ?
Luke 7, Verse 38: wet his
feet with her tears... poured perfume on them
- Once poured you cannot take it back. It cost her one year’s wages(CTC). Please don’t give it calculating with percentages.
- People call it a waste; God sees it as a compliment.
- It is seen as beautiful in the sight of the Lord. What you do for God counts.
Luke 7, Verse 39: she is a
sinner... If this man were a prophet...
- People Label people as sinners... categorize them..
- Never label People and Never Label God. Never expect God to work in your way and as you say.
- He astonishes, surprises and fascinates... those who judge Him.
- Think He is a carpenter, he surprises you by giving tips for fishing.
- Think He is sleeping, He astonishes you by rebuking the wind and storm.
- You think that He is not there on the boat, He would come walking towards you on the sea.
- You think He ends with the cross... He resurrects and leads us to eternal life.
- As we grow we are able to fathom on the greatness of His supremacy. But, He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Luke 7, Verse 40: Simon,
I have something to tell you...
Verse 44: Do you see this woman?
- Jesus knows and answers your every thoughts – It is a comfort as well as a warning
- Simon, I have something to tell you. – Even when he knows your underlying thought, He approaches you with Gentleness.
- He sees people as people and does not categorize them as sinners...
He(Jesus) demands your
love...
